The
Brief Sun -
A new historical novel about Anders' Army
The Invited - The story of Polish orphans released from Siberia and taken to New Zealand. Kolyma - The story of a survivor of Kolyma also known as "White Auschwitz." This was the most brutal of all Soviet labor camps where prisoners were forced to work until they died digging out gold under frigid conditions (fainting was considered an act of sabotage and prisoners were frequently shot for fainting). Russian President Vladimir Putin recently claimed the actions of the Soviets under Stalin should not be compared to the atrocities of the nazis. Either he is unfamiliar with Kolyma's history or he is hoping others are not. The West is not innocent either; both the American and British governments suppressed the truth about Kolyma when the Soviet Union was their "ally." Once the Cold War was under way, there was still no reason to acknowledge the atrocities. It is estimated that three million lives were lost at Kolyma. Battle of Monte Cassino- A web site dedicated to the battle of Monte Cassino. A Forgotten Odyssey- Film and information on Polish citizens deported to USSR. Database of Deportees -- A database of Polish citizens deported to the Soviet Union called "Indeks Represjonowanych" (index of the repressed). It is obviously incomplete but thousands of names are listed. Dates of deportation are listed as well as camp locations and fates. If you are looking for the history of a relative, you can search the database even if you do not know Polish. Just click on "wyszukiwanie" (search), then enter the last name under "nazwisko" and click "szukaj." But remember, this is just one database. If you have no luck, don't give up; to start, you can go to the "A Forgotten Odyssey" site listed above and follow their advice for searches. 15th Poznanski Lancers Regiment - an elegant web site dedicated to one of the regiments of Anders Army. The Polish Soldier - This excellent site is dedicated to the Polish Army in the East and those who fought for the allies in Italy (2nd Corps). AFO & Kresy-Siberia Photo Album - Hundreds of Pre-1945 Polish photographs.
